Live video classes with a real whiteboard

Teach live.
Every hand gets seen.

Chalkline is a live video classroom for one educator and up to 50 learners. Teach on a shared whiteboard and slides, call on raised hands one at a time, and let notes and recordings take care of themselves.

What you get

A classroom that keeps order while you teach.

Who speaks, what gets written down and who shows up on time are handled for you, so your attention stays on the lesson.

Everyone joins muted. Hands go up in order.

Learners raise a hand to speak and you see who asked first. One tap gives someone the floor, another takes it back and their mic switches off by itself.

Open the floor when it fits

Switch to discussion mode and everyone can talk at once. Teacher priority pauses student mics while you speak, then hands the room back.

Whiteboard and slides in one place

Draw with pen, highlighter, shapes and text. Drop in a PDF deck and write straight on each slide while learners follow every stroke.

An audio note taker that listens

Turn on live notes and what you say becomes captions and a written transcript, saved with the class so nobody has to scribble.

Recordings worth rewatching

Record the board, your video and every voice in one replay. Learners click any line of the notes to jump to that moment.

Schedules with built-in reminders

Plan a single class or a weekly series. Registered learners get a reminder the day before and a nudge 15 minutes before you start.

Phone + computer

Your phone carries the camera. Your computer carries the lesson.

On one laptop, video, sound, slides and drawing all compete for the same power. Pair your phone in seconds and each device does the job it is best at, so the board stays smooth and your video stays sharp.

How it works

One class, from calendar to replay.

  1. Before

    Schedule it

Create a class, set the time and repeat it weekly if you like. Share one link or a 6 character code with up to 50 learners.

  2. The day before

    Everyone gets reminded

Registered learners get an email reminder and a browser notification, then another nudge 15 minutes before start.

  3. During

    Teach live

Learners join muted. Use the board and slides, call on raised hands, open the floor for discussion and record if you want.

  4. After

    Replay and review

The recording, the written notes and the final board stay with the class, ready for anyone who missed it or wants a second look.

A learner wearing headphones writes in her notebook during a class.

Your hand is up

You are second in line. The educator will call on you.

For learners

Show up, follow along, never lose the thread.

Join from any device

A phone, tablet or computer with a browser is all it takes. Sign in once and stay signed in.

Speak when it is your turn

Raise your hand and the educator sees you in the queue. When they allow you, your mic turns on.

Captions while you listen

Turn on captions to read along as the educator talks, helpful on a noisy bus or a weak connection.

Notes you did not have to write

After class the transcript, the board and the recording are waiting in your dashboard.

Questions

Good to know before your first class.

How many people can be in one class?

Each class has one educator spot and 50 learner spots. Once 50 learners are registered, the class shows as full and the join link stops taking new people.

Do learners need to install anything?

No. Chalkline runs in a modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Learners sign up with their name, email and a password, and stay signed in on that device.

How does using my phone and computer together work?

Start the class on your computer and choose to use your phone for camera and voice. A code appears on screen. Scan it with your phone camera and your phone joins as your camera and microphone, while your computer keeps the whiteboard, slides, notes and recording.

Can students talk whenever they like?

By default everyone joins muted and raises a hand to speak. You can give the floor to one learner at a time, or open the floor so the whole class can speak at once. With teacher priority on, student mics pause while you are talking.

What slides can I use?

Upload a PDF or images. Most presentation tools, including PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides, can save a deck as a PDF. Each page becomes a slide you can draw on during class.

Where do recordings and notes go?

They are saved with the class. Everyone registered for the class can watch the recording, read the notes and look through the final board from their dashboard.

Which browsers support live notes?

Live notes use the speech recognition built into the browser, which works in Chrome, Edge and Safari. Learners see the notes in any browser.

Your first class can be live in ten minutes.

Create an account, schedule a class, share the code. Your learners get reminded, and you get a room that keeps order.
